What is a life map?

A life map is not a travel log. It is the set of places that made you who you are, laid out in the order you lived them.

Most maps answer where you went. A life map answers something else: where you were, over years, and what those places came to mean. It is as much about the street you grew up on as about anywhere you flew to.

What belongs on one

  • The house you grew up in, and the ones after it.
  • Places you moved to, and the year you moved.
  • Where family is, and where it used to be.
  • The place you kept going back to without deciding to.
  • Milestones — a first flat, a wedding, a goodbye.
  • Whole periods of a life, not only single days.

Places made us.

That is the thought Kelavi is built on. A place is rarely just a coordinate: it is who you were when you were there. Put enough of them in order and a life becomes readable — not as a list of trips, but as chapters.

From places to chapters

Kelavi groups your places by time and country. Photos taken within the same stretch belong to one chapter; a gap of a couple of weeks, or a border crossing, starts the next. You add the words only you know, and the chapter becomes yours.
