Questions about Kelavi
Short, factual answers about what Kelavi does with your photos, your locations and your account.
Questions and answers
- What is Kelavi?
- Kelavi is a privacy-first service that turns the places and dates in your existing photos into a personal map and timeline of your life. It is not a social network, not a location tracker and not a photo backup service.
- How does Kelavi create a map from my photos?
- Most photos already contain the coordinates and the date they were taken. Kelavi reads those in your own browser, places each photo on a map, and groups them by time and country into chapters.
- Does Kelavi track my location?
- No. Kelavi never asks for your live location and has no background tracking. It only reads the location that is already stored inside a photo you choose to add.
- Does Kelavi upload all my photos?
- No. You choose per photo whether to keep it as a memory. A photo you do not keep is never uploaded — only its coordinates and date are.
- What photo information does Kelavi use?
- The coordinates and the date stored in the photo, plus its size and sharpness, which are used only to set aside images that would not hold up.
- What happens if a photo has no GPS information?
- It cannot be placed on the map, and Kelavi says so rather than guessing. Nothing is inferred from a filename, a folder or anything else.
- Can I use old photos?
- Yes, and that is the point. Scans and older digital photos work as long as they carry a location and a date; the map is meant to span decades, not one holiday.
- Can I edit locations?
- Not today. A place comes from the photo itself, which is what keeps the map honest. You choose which photos and memories belong to a chapter, and write your own words for it.
- Can I share my Kelavi map?
- Yes. You can share a private link that you can revoke at any time, or make your map reachable by anyone who has its link. Your map stays private until you choose one of those.
- Can a shared map appear in Google?
- No. Shared and public maps are excluded from search engines in the page itself and in the response headers, and they are never listed anywhere on the site.
- Can I delete my data?
- Yes, at any time from your account. Deleting removes your stored photos first, then everything attached to your account.
- Can I delete my account?
- Yes. It happens immediately rather than after a waiting period, it removes every place, note, share link and preference, and it cannot be undone.
- Can I create a physical print?
- Yes. Kelavi composes a print-ready poster from your own map, which you download and print yourself. It is a one-time purchase, not a subscription.
- Is Kelavi a photo backup service?
- No. Kelavi keeps only the memories you choose, and is not a place to store your originals. Keep your own copies.
- How is Kelavi different from Apple Photos?
- Apple Photos organises your whole library and shows everything you took. Kelavi keeps only what you choose and arranges it by place and period, so the shape of a life becomes visible rather than a list of days.
- How is Kelavi different from Google Photos?
- Google Photos is a backup and search tool for your entire library. Kelavi is not a backup: it holds a curated set of places and memories, encrypts the precise locations, and has no advertising or profiling attached to it.
